AN EXCLUSIVE INVITATION TO THE READING OF A NEW PLAY

MANDA
A READING OF A WORK IN PROGRESS BY NOEL HODDA
WITH Maggie Blinco
Stuart Robinson, Talia Benatar, Merridy Eastman, Glenn Hazeldine, Julie Hudspeth.
Directed by Aarne Neeme
In 1966 ninety-year-old Manda Bjorling, famous for being the first Swedish Miss Julie in Strindberg’s play of that name, is visited in her nursing home near Stockholm by Amanda Nielsen, a young actress about to play the role herself. The visit causes Manda’s memories to come to life, as she re-lives the fraught rehearsals leading up to a special performance of the play.
Manda’s memories become more and more slippery, competing with reality for attention. Is it real, or is it all in her mind? Is the play real life or is real life the play?
This play is based on true events, but liberties have been taken.
