SYDNEY THEATRE AWARDS SPONSORSHIP

Glenn Hazeldine presents Endowment Award to Jazz Laker

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AND STUDENT ENDOWMENT SPONSORED BY ABF AT SYDNEY THEATRE AWARDS

The Actors Benevolent Fund became a sponsor for the Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 2017 Sydney Theatre Awards held in January at the Seymour Centre on January 22. The award was presented to celebrated designer Brian Thomson with an inaugural subsidiary endowment presented to second year NIDA acting student Jazz Laker.

It was a star studded night with over 450 of the theatre fraternity gathered in the Everest Theatre for the presentation of 37 Awards hosted by the Sydney theatre reviewers. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognised a 46-year design career of Brian Thomson which included the original Australian production of Hair, the original Royal Court production of The Rocky Horror Show, Australian and London productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and currently on stage in Melbourne the musicals, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical.

As an addition Glenn Hazeldine on behalf of ABF presented $1,500 endowment to second year NIDA acting student Jazz Laker to assist with the financial demands of studying and living away from home. This endowment was matched on the night by Brian Thomson with a donation of an equivalent amount.

ABF is proud to honour those who have given our industry so much over a lifetime of commitment and creativity as well as assisting a young artist to reach her dream in the performing arts through the endowment.  ABF is there to support all our fellow artists at all stages of their careers. The award and endowment will be sponsored by ABF into the future.
